Objet Textile Biennal #5

For this 5th edition of the Objet Textile biennial, 20 designers are transforming the uses of textile materials.

Between art and science, between artisanal experimentation and environmental commitment, between traditional know-how and digital technology, each of them is innovating in their own way with textile objects.
Visionary, committed and humorous, they explore familiar and unusual materials to reveal their aesthetic qualities and even their poetry, to affirm an eco-artistic approach or to take a critical look at our contemporary society.
Follow them as they slip into the interstices and blur the boundaries between art, design and research. You will be amazed by everything that can become or do textiles!

La Manufacture is organising the 5th edition of the Objet Textile biennial, the highlight of its programme focusing on contemporary textile art. Twenty-six local, national and international artists, selected by a jury of professionals, are invited to present their work in individual 10m3 modules, showcasing their unique worlds.

This exhibition showcases the richness and diversity of contemporary textile creation and this year focuses on the theme of materials. Going beyond the confines of the exhibition hall, the art installations presented in the heart of the machine room blend in with the industrial heritage.

A Manufacture prize, a Lieux Communs prize (Namur, Belgium), a TAMAT prize – Museum of Tapestry and Textile Arts of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (Tournai, Belgium), and for the first time this year a Texture prize – Museum of Linen and Textiles (Kortrijk, Belgium), are awarded on this occasion. The winning artists will be given a place in the programming of these four institutions.
